CHILDREN, WAKE UP!

XX DAY FOR CHILDREN VICTIMS

of violence, exploitation and indifference - against pedophilia

don di notoCHILDREN, WAKE UP!

And taking the child by the hand he said to her,

‘Talitha kum!’ which means, ‘Little girl, I tell you to get up.’ (Mk, 5,41)

My beloved friends,

this year the GBV  - Day Children Victims of violence, exploitation, indifference and against pedophilia, will turn 20 and will be celebrated throughout Italy and abroad on May 1st,  2016, with moments of prayer and the expected meeting in St. Peter’s Square with the Holy Father Pope Francis.

So many years have passed since, on a dramatic day of spring, I saved - in the nick of time - from death by hanging a little girl that her mother had decided to kill; since I welcomed the first children who told me their sad stories of abuse; since when, with the advent of new technologies, I saw the ugly children victims of pedophilia market, the new slaves of digital suburbs. It was then that I made this choice of life: I have given an answer to what Jesus Christ asked me, to stand up with the little ones and do everything for their preservation and protection. It was then that Meter, the NPO  that I founded and lead since 1989, has taken more strongly its role of diakonia (service, community) for children.

Since that day, from the institution of GBV established in response to the serious and sad phenomenon of child abuse, pedophilia and child pornography - even with its cultural implications justification, every year Meter, with a growing membership of common people, parishes and associations, has remembered the small, the weak, all the children who have been left without voice and whose silent scream, if it does not come to our ears, however, comes to the heart of God, the Merciful, and our heart has the duty to be human and with a pastoral accent.

On this occasion we have chosen the following theme: “And taking the child by the hand he said to her,‘Talitha kum!’ which means,‘Little girl, I tell you to get up.’” (Mk 5,41). That is, we speak of the passage from death to life, from abuse to healing, from darkness to light, from resignation to hope, from the denial of life to a full and true existence.

How many boys and girls, bent on themselves, stretched out in the bed of death, have been raised, have resumed their journey! How many children, including child victims, they also had the courage to forgive even their tormentor follewing the example offered by Saint Maria Goretti !.

We need your support and your prayers to mantain our commitment in favor of children. We feel that infancy it is more and more forgotten, vilified, violated, exploited, commercialized, from the beginning of conception. All this causes us so much pain and suffering, but also a personal and communitarian commitment.
